Transcription: The larynx or voice box is a hollow organ made of muscles and cartilages that are held together by connective tissue. It is located directly above the trachea and right below the throat cavity. Encasing the larynx are two flat plates of cartilage that meet to form a ridge in the front of the neck. This ridge is commonly known as the Adam's apple. Inside the laryngeal cavity are two bands of mucous membrane that contain elastic ligaments.
